Lets get this game on the road...
[Forgive me EngineBrat for borrowing your character. ANY OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE IS JUST FOR COLOR AND NO INSULTS OR PERSONAL ATTACKS ARE MEANT BY IT. PLEASE PM IF THIS IS A PROBLEM]
From the scribblings of Captain McKellar...
0730 HR Waiting for the merchant leader to finalize his paperwork before we leave Raciborz for Krakow. Still trying to figure out how I got mixed up in this. A couple of days ago I was dragging my sorry ass into this town after barely escaping another Russian patrol and today I am working with another bunch of survivors from the giant screw up that was Kalisz escorting a convoy to Krakow. The four guys were still pissed off that their Captain deserted them and is trying to make his way on his own back to their lines instead of trying for the airplane that is rumored to be at Krakow. They keep mentioning something about having the golden ticket in a bunch of papers they took off a Russian patrol outside of Kalisz. I just hope they are right.
Tanner, Bradley, Bishop and Diaz seem to work as a tight unit despite their diverse backgrounds and the new guy LeBlanc seems to be fitting in... for a Frenchman. We have made a pledge to get ourselves back home in one piece and thats what I intend to do.
0800 HRS We finally move out with Bradley and the kraut Tanner yapping away to each other in the lead UAZ. For two guys from completely different worlds they seem to be the best of buddies.
The BTR-70 is next followed by the oldest BRMD I have ever seen... must be the original test model. A 2.5 ton truck goes next then a 5 ton truck loaded with food. We are next in the BMP C with Bishop manning the 30mm and LeBlanc driving.
The mechant leader is in the 2.5 ton truck behind us and he has two five ton trucks and the 5000 Ltr tanker behind him. Bringing up the rear is the final UAZ with Diaz and our medical supplies. 20 guards are scattered throughout the vehicles and we are not expecting any problems until we get to the town of Bielsko-Biala which marks the end of the Markgrafs territory.
1145 HRS Well the day WAS going well... we had to go off road down this farm track to bypass some huge m_fng craters when the BRMD driver tries to lower his extra set of tires for better stability... and of course the piece of crap jams and interferes with his main driving wheels. So we try to go around him and one of the 5 ton trucks goes over the edge into the crater blowing a tire... and dumping its load of cloth. SO we are stuck here in the heat while they get the BRMD fixed and the truck out of the crater and reloaded...
Man I could use a beer!

Lets heat things up...
As you are waiting for the truck to get out of the crater and the BRMD get repaired - all make a RCN(DIF) roll. Bradley - 77, Tanner - 58, Leblanc - 81, Bishop - 85, McKellar - 50, Diaz - 13 (success).
"Diaz is going over the medical supplies for the zillionth time when he looks up and glances a flash/glint coming from the trees about 300 m away. He waits and is about to ignore it when he sees it again. What does the team want to do?"
(Even with binoculars you can't make out what is caused the glint.)
OPTIONS:
1) Ignore the glint but keep a careful watch out just in case.
2) Send a patrol of 4 guards to check it out.
3) Go check it out yourself.
4) Ask the merchant leader for his wishes remembering the convoy MUST get through.

Individual Posting Tanner
Tanner - assuming Diaz told us about what he's seen - proposes to send some scouts out. Thes scouts should be members of our small unit, preferable Tanner himself and Brad. Both have been working together as recce team and know each other well enough, to have a feeling of security, and knowing, that they can depend on the other's actions and observations.
Off course, nothing speaks against a bigger team, say something like four individuals.
Regardless of what will happen, Tanner checks his rifle, his spare magazines, and makes shure, his NVG are in the pouch of his belt, fresh batteries with it.

Re: Lets get this game on the road...
LeBlanc thinks we should let the merchant leader know that we have concerns about what may be happening in the woods. The merchant leader does have over all command of the convoy.
LeBlanc also suggest we try to position the BMP so we can protect the convoy if there is an attack.
Can we have a map so we can see the situation?

Merchant leader has right to over ruled military commander when safety of trucks concern
I think we will tell the merchant commander what we saw and then suggest that we send Bradley and Tanner to investigate.
I will also suggest all the convoy drivers remain in their vehicles and put all the extra men to helping getting the truck out of the crater and reloaded. If things go bad we tell the trucks to boot it out of there and we provide covering fire.

Brad listened to the discussion and said, "Good idea, I'd say we let the convoy leader know but offer him the option of us scouting out the glint. He'll probably be an experienced campaigner and might well know something about the road that we don't."

All the convoy leader knows is this region had a lot of refugees pass through this area after the American's nuked Gilwice, Bytom and Katowice and marauders moved into the abandoned cities.
Re: Lets get this game on the road...
The Captain watched in satisfaction as the trucks started moving slowly down the road. He gave the signal for Brad and Tanner to start their run and almost burst out laughing as he could see the two argue over who was the better driver. He looked back to see that Diaz was in the last UAZ but behind the BRDM for safety. Fuck it, he decided... if this goes to hell my first priority is MY team and screw the convoy.
Brad and Tanner gunned it made it half way across the field before coming to a small creek and after a few anxious moments when the wheels started spinning they made it to the edge of the woods safely. They dismounted with the vehicle between them and the woods and started to scan the trees looking for any threats...
RCN(DIF) rolls - Brad 78, Tanner 09
Tanner suddenly stiffens and draws Bradley's attention to something hanging in the trees to the right. It seems to blowing gently in the trees and once in a while a beam of sunlight glints off of it. Bradley raises his binoculars and then chuckles when he realizes the object was some sort of belt. As he scans the area he does a double take when he makes out a giant shape in the woods further back...

Strewned over the forest was the fuselage of a B-52 bomber...
The buckle appears to be from an ejection seat from the aircraft. All appears to be undisturbed for a while but from what you can guess there was at least one American survivor.

Re: Lets get this game on the road...
Does Bradley/Tanner have a radio and able to contact us with what they see?

They have a short range radio and they let the Captain know what they have seen. The Captain tells them to keep their eyes open but do a careful search of the wreckage.
(hmmm I wonder if anyone took nuclear weapon training MAAAUUUHHHH just kidding)

Searching the wreck
With Bradley keeping watch Tanner does a quick search and only turns up a buried first aid kit, 2 MRE, map case and the planes black box.
After taking note of the location they hurry back to the rest of the convoy with their booty.
The Captain sends the first air kit to Diaz and lets Bradley and Tanner keep the MRE as a prize for their little adventure. Knowing he doesn't YET have the technology to open the black box he then turns his attention to the maps. Most are aeronautical maps of the aerospace over southern Poland but the one near Krakow catches his attention as it has an X marked on it near the small town of Ojcow.

Continuing On
(ADMIN NOTE: Okay the posting system seems to have worked... I am going to move us along a bit so that we can get out of the Baron's organized territory and into more dangerous country)
After getting the truck back on the road and FINALLY getting the BRMD fixed (duct tape works wonders) the convoy made it to Rybnik and loaded up the rest of the material heading for Krakow. After spending the night in the town, the group (some still a little hung over from the local home brew) headed southeast to the lake crossing before heading to Bielsko.

Re: Lets get this game on the road...
AUG 20, 2000 0800HRS
It took all night to ferry the vehicles across the lake cross on the home made barges and everyone got a good night sleep. All the vehicles were refilled with fuel and enough fuel was distilled to get them to Bielsko.
You hear rumors that after the small town of Zywiec it becomes marauder territory and the worse gang is called the RR - Butchers of Ropczyce.
You decide to call all the troops together and make plans on how to best defend the convoy.
(NOTE: Please post in Character posting area any ideas or methods you want to protect the convoy.)
